1910 painted postcard depicting Summerhill Borough in Cambria County, Pennsylvania
Our family and community website was inspired by the curiosity of Tom Bodenschatz (1945 – 2012) and is dedicated to all who work to preserve and share family stories.
We began our work in the fall of 2022 by searching for historical U.S. Census records for Tom’s parents, Meg (née Rooney) and Ed (aka “A”) Bodenschatz, as well as their parents and grandparents in Cambria County, Pennsylvania. Our exploration unearthed hundreds of documents and stories about our ancestors, and led to the rediscovery of branches in their family trees that had been lost to us for generations.
Our growing connections across various branches of the family have turned this small effort into a joyful collaborative project with cousins from around the world. We are eager to continue swapping stories with any family connected with ours through birth, marriage, neighborhood, friendship, and beyond — if that includes you, we hope you will consider registering for the private part of our website.
We would also enjoy hearing from you when:
- You know of a surname not yet included in our running list above (see the static version here) that connects with the extended Bodenschatz or Rooney family at some point in history;
- You have a family story from anywhere in the world about a branch of our family that you would like to share on our blog; or
- You have ideas, suggestions, or questions to share about our work or this website.
